The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating human skeletal remains reported Saturday night in Pacific Palisades. According to Pacific Palisades Patch, two hikers stumbled upon a human skull in a canyon near the entrance of Los Liones Canyon Trail.
Officers that checked the area discovered the skeletal remains of a human torso approximately 20 feet from the discovery site, police told Patch.
The hikers notified a nearby L.A. city fire station, who radioed the police. The site is about a quarter mile north of Sunset Boulevard, just east of Pacific Coast Highway.
The identity has not been established, and police could not immediately say how advanced the state of decomposition is, said City News Service. Police are waiting for autopsy results before determining cause and mode of death.
