Carmageddon 2 kicks off Friday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. when crews will shut down ramps along the 405 freeway in Los Angeles. As part of the same project in July 2011, workers demolished the south side of Mulholland overpass on the 405 freeway.
Carmageddon 2 starts Friday night on the Westside.
Metro will close a 10-mile stretch of the 405 through Monday morning to demolish the north half of the Mulholland Bridge.
Metro project manager Mike Barbour said crews are already along the freeway with excavators, retaining walls, cranes and lights.
“They’re out there doing a little bit of prep work on the hillside, not much," he said. "They’ve been planning this for quite a while, so all their equipment is on-site.”
Metro is closing the northbound 405 between the 10 and 101 freeways and the southbound 405 between the 101 and Getty Center.
Barbour said construction work will begin at 7 p.m. when ramps start shutting down. At 10 p.m., freeway lanes will close gradually, leading to a complete freeway closure by midnight.
