The Pasadena Tournament of Roses crowned its 95th Rose Queen Tuesday morning. Vanessa Natalie Manjarrez, 17, of Pasadena, was selected from the seven girls that make up the Royal Court to take on the queen's duties at the 2013 Rose Parade.

Manjarrez is a student at Mayfield Senior School who participates in the Diversity Committee and Advising Council. She lists stem cell research and genetics among the subjects she would like to study in college.

She also actively volunteers at the National Charity League, the Pasadena Humane Society and Villa Esperanza. Manjarrez also enjoys dancing and traveling.

About 900 young women from Pasadena and the surrounding area vied for the spot. The pool was narrowed to 33 before the final seven were announced earlier this month.
