The Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market in Altadena is set to open in early 2013.
Wal-Mart will hold a hiring event on Saturday for job seekers interested in working at the retail chain's new Altadena Neighborhood Market.
The store, which will open in 2013, has caused some tension in the community because several nearby small businesses are worried they cannot compete with Wal-Mart’s low prices.
Wal-Mart said it would provide interested workers with more information on the 65 full and part-time positions at its Altadena store on Lincoln Avenue, which will sell groceries and household items. Jobs at the store include pharmacy technicians, stockers and cashiers. The average wage for an hourly full-time worker at Wal-Mart is $12.89 an hour in California.
At the event, workers will receive interview tips and learn more about how to apply.
The event is called “Hiring Altadena” and was organized by the Foothill Workforce Investment Board.
“We are working with local organizations to help us find customer service oriented, motivated applicants to join our Wal-Mart team,” said Altadena store manager Jennifer Gonzales.
“Hiring Altadena” is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Metropolitan Baptist Church at 2283 N. Fair Oaks Ave. in Altadena.
