Entertainment mogul David Geffen is donating $100 million for full-ride scholarships for 33 medical students at the University of California, Los Angeles.
The money covers tuition, housing, food, books and other expenses so the incoming students finish medical school without a huge debt. A UCLA medical school education runs about $300,000.
UCLA formally announces the Geffen gift on Thursday.
The 69-year-old Geffen joined Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg in forming the DreamWorks SKG film company in 1994.
Geffen is the largest individual donor to any UC campus.
Ten years ago, he donated $200 million in unrestricted funds to the UCLA medical school. which carries his name: David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
