UPDATE: Fullerton coach and fiance, USC public safety officer, found shot in Irvine

UPDATE 3:40p.m: USC has confirmed that Keith Lawrence had just completed his field training and recently been assigned to patrol operations at the university.

Lawrence, 27,  had been a standout basketball player at Concordia University in Irvine.

He was found in his car fatally shot along with his fiance, Monica Quan, 28, on top of a parking structure at their apartment near the UC Irvine campus.

Quan was in her second year as a Fullerton assistant women's basketball coach.

Police don’t have suspects or a motive. They found no sign of a robbery.

In a statement Fullerton President Mildred Garcia called Quan’s death “tragic and heart wrenching.”

Women's basketball head coach Marcia Foster said: "There really are no words to convey the sadness we feel at the loss, those of us who have had the privilege of working with her...A really bright light was put out way too soon. Someone whose passion was impacting young women with the game of basketball. As an assistant, she was someone I counted on to tell me the truth. I loved that about her -- I loved her work ethic and her passion for life."

The university is making counselors available for staff and student-athletes.

Thoughts and prayers for Quan have been pouring in on Twitter from coaches at other schools.

“The world lost a very beautiful/gentle/bright soul in Monica Quan,” Claremont’s head women’s basketball coach Kristen Dowling tweeted. “She was a great coach and even better person. Taken way too young.”

UPDATE 1:23 p.m.: Irvine police have identified the couple found fatally shot in a parking garage at their apartment building in Irvine last night as a Cal-State Fullerton Assistant basketball coach and her fiancé.

The two were found lifeless and slumped over in Lawrence’s car, on top of a parking structure at their apartment near the UC Irvine campus.

PREVIOUSLY: A couple has been found shot to death inside a car in an Irvine parking structure.

The Irvine Police Department says a passerby called Sunday night to report a man slumped over the wheel of a car on the top floor of the parking structure across from an upscale condominium complex at 2100 Scholarship.

A news release from Irvine police says officers arrived about 9:10 p.m. and discovered two adults, a male and female, inside the car.

Irvine police identified the victims as Keith Lawrence, 27, and his fiancée, Monica Quan, 28. 

Irvine police say they were found inside Lawrence’s vehicle, parked at the top of the residential parking structure of their Irvine residence. Their deaths are being investigated as a double homicide. There is no suspect information at this time.
