Authorities have identified a man fatally shot during a confrontation with sheriff’s deputies investigating a domestic violence case in South Los Angeles.

A coroner’s spokesperson tells the Los Angeles Times that 24-year-old Brice Jefferson died Friday.

Sheriff’s officials say Jefferson was shot by a deputy after he used the car he was driving to pin a detective to the ground

The deputy went to a supermarket parking lot, where a woman reported her boyfriend had taken her two young children after an argument.

Officials say Jefferson drove to the lot and rammed the detective, sending him 15 feet into the air.

The detective was taken to a hospital, treated and released. The girlfriend and her daughters - one age 8 and the other 7 months - were unharmed.
