Updated: Roaming bear caught, school lockdown lifted in La Cañada Flintridge

Updated 3:39 p.m.: The L.A. County Sheriff's Department reports that a wayward bear has been captured and that officials have lifted a lockdown on Paradise Canyon Elementary School in La Cañada Flintridge.

Previously: A bear is roaming through backyards in La Cañada Flintridge Monday afternoon, according to animal control officials, NBC4 reported.

The bruin was spotted about 3 p.m. in the 4900 block of Crown Avenue. The black bear was also seen near Baptise Way and Crown Avenue.

Three residents were lounging poolside when the wayward bear meandered into the yard, scaring the trio into the house.

Paradise Canyon Elementary School has been locked down during the search. School officials told NBC4 they expect to release students to their parents at about 4 p.m.

Residents are being told to stay inside while agents attempt to tranquilize the bruin and bring him back to the wild.
