Los Angeles picking mayor after low-drama campaign

Los Angeles Mayor race 2013Citizens of Los Angeles are choosing a new mayor Tuesday.

The turnout tally is expected to be very low when polls close at 8 p.m. PDT Tuesday, with only 1 in 4 voters in the nation's second-largest city expected to cast a ballot. The L.A. city clerk released the number of ballots received early Tuesday, with numbers higher than during the primary.

Voters are choosing between two Democrats, City Councilman Eric Garcetti and City Controller Wendy Greuel, to succeed Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

The mayoral contest has seen record spending — more than $30 million overall.
