The Los Angeles Police Department held a demonstration Thursday morning in downtown Los Angeles of what it would do in the event of an attack by terrorists with a weapon of mass destruction.

The demonstration near the Bonaventure Hotel began with an explosion. Police helicopters flew low between downtown office buildings and police descended, engaging in a mock gun battle using blanks with officers portraying terrorists.

Authorities say the drill is part of the National Homeland Security Association's conference at the Bonaventure Hotel and is being conducted by the Police Department's Counter Terrorism and Special Operations Bureau.
