San Bernardino County District Attorney.
Laura Whitehurst, 28, was arrested after the mother of a Citrus Valley High student contacted school officials about the suspected relationship between her son and the English teacher.
A Redlands high school teacher accused of having a student's baby was charged Monday with 41 counts of sex and oral copulation with a minor, the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office said in a press release.
Laura Whitehurst, 28, was arrested at her apartment last Monday for unlawful sex with a minor. She was released July 1 after posting $25,000 bail but arrested again today without incident, the District's Attorney's Office told NBC4.
Since this initial allegation, two additional male victims have come forward—both claiming to have had sexual contact with Whitehurst while they were minors.
"Whitehurst is a teacher at Citrus Valley High School here in Redlands. The victim, a now 17-year-old, was 16 at the time of the assault and a student at the school," said Redlands police commander Shawn Ryan last week.
Officials at Citrus Valley High contacted officers after allegedly getting a tip from the student's mother. The school issued a statement that said the teacher had been placed on leave after police were notified.
Whitehurst is being held on $750,000 bail and could face up to 29 years in state prison.
The investigation is ongoing and authorities are asking anyone with additional information to contact Detective Natasha Crawford at (909) 798-7623 or the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office at (909) 382-3660.
