Santa Ana police investigate officer shooting that left man dead at mall

Santa Ana police are investigating an incident that left one man dead Tuesday afternoon after he was shot by police.

Police spokesman Anthony Bertagna said officers were called to a shopping mall at the 600 block of South Harbor Street a around 3 pm. Tuesday, where a "belligerent and possibly under the influence of drugs and alcohol" was causing a problem.

Officers confronted the man and chased him after he ran off. He was shot a short distance later and pronounced dead at the scene. 

The man's name and other details haven't been released. Bertagna said it was not yet known if a gun was found at the scene.

There were no other injuries reported.
