A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Redondo Beach.

Sometime after 11 p.m. Thursday, someone reported a woman was screaming as she was being dragged into her home, according to police.

"When our officers arrived, she was actually outside the house, and so we were able to take her to a safe location and we determined that she had been assaulted by her 43-year-old male son," said Redondo Beach Police Captain Jeff Hink.

Hink said Mitchell Allison refused to come outside.

"At some point, the officers were able to break down the front door of the residence and the suspect armed himself with a knife," he said.

That's when the shooting occurred. Police said Allison died at the hospital and none of the many officers involved was hurt.
