The Rim Fire burning near Yosemite has burned 11,000 acres thus far, with 0 percent contained as it continues to grow, Tuolumne County Sheriff's Department spokesman Scott Johnson tells KPCC.

Evacuation orders have been issues in recreational areas, but they are not yet mandatory, Johnson said. Two homes have been destroyed, as well as five outbuildings.

The area is a sparsely populated area with campgrounds, Johnson said. It's a busy time of year for campers, but some of the larger camps weren't heavily populated this week, according to Johnson.
