The Los Angeles County Sheriff's department says a suspect who jumped from a car during a late-night pursuit has been injured in a deputy-involved shooting.

The sheriff's department said its deputies were following a reckless driver late Saturday in an unincorporated area south of Los Angeles when a passenger jumped from the car and began to flee on foot. Deputies confronted the suspect and the confrontation ended in a shooting.

A loaded handgun was recovered at the scene.

No deputies were injured.

The car's driver was taken into custody a short time later.
