Police continue to investigate a bizarre incident in Woodland Hills, where KJAZZ host Jerry Sharell was held hostage at his girlfriend's home and attacked with a machete.
Authorities say the former music industry executive is now in stable condition in Los Angeles after being allegedly cut with a machete by his girlfriend's suicidal ex-husband.
The suspect, 57-year-old Behnam Vasseghi of Woodland Hills, will be in court Tuesday and arraigned on attempted murder, LAPD spokesperson Sara Faden told KPCC.
The incident took place at 8 a.m. Sunday. Sharell and his girlfriend were taken hostage for about three hours before the girlfriend escaped, said Faden.
City News reports the incident took place at the woman's Woodland Hills home.
Eventually the woman was able to get away and call police. Once on the scene, officers saw Vasseghi holding the machete and ordered him to drop the weapon. At that point, Faden said, Vasseghi had slit his own wrists.
Officials said Sharell had been cut on the neck.
Vasseghi, Sharell and his girlfriend were all hospitalized. The woman has since been released.
Sharell hosts KJAZZ's "Sundays With Sinatra" radio program. As an executive in the music industry, he also played a role in the careers of many well known musicians, including h the Eagles, Linda Rondstadt and Motley Crue.
