Los Angeles Port Police say a man is dead after he tried to save another man and a teenager who were swept into the ocean just before sunrise at the Cabrillo Beach breakwater.
"People are known to go out there to do a variety things at sunrise from take photos to collect starfish," said Brian Humphrey, spokesman for the L.A. Fire Department. "They have not been able to verbalize what they were doing out there, but fishing gear was discovered with the trio."
Humphrey says the man who died had no pulse and was not breathing when he was pulled from the water. He was 35.
The other man, who's 49, and the 14-year-old boy suffered hypothermia. They were taken in fair condition to Little Company of Mary Hospital in San Pedro. Lt. Mike Capodanno of the Los Angeles Port Police says both should be released soon. They have not released their names.
