A 19-year-old man was rescued Friday morning in Palos Verdes Estates after his car plunged 300 feet over a cliff and into the ocean.

A man is hospitalized after being rescued from his car that plunged 300 feet over a cliff and into the ocean in Palos Verdes Estates early Friday, according to authorities, KTLA5 reported. 

A helicopter was brought in to hoist the driver, identified as a 19-year-old man from Rolling Hills Estates, out of the car and to the hospital, authorities told KTLA5.

The Los Angeles County fire captain told NBC4 that the man said "he did this on purpose."
