5 arrested after fishermen stabbed on Santa Monica Pier

Five people have been arrested after an argument between fisherman and a group of passersby at the Santa Monica Pier led to a brawl and stabbing, police said Sunday. 

Santa Monica police say the incident took place at 1:20 a.m. Saturday at the far west end of the pier, when a group of five people got into a shouting match with two fishermen. According to a statement from the department, the group attacked the two men, stabbing both several times. 

Pier and Harbor Service Officers responded and administered first aid. 

Santa Monica police found the five suspects on the pier and placed them under arrest, the statement said. They were later ID'd as the assailants. 

Araik Ovoian, 24, of Burbank; Gevork Bagdasaryan, 19, of Burbank; Alex Akob Akbari, 18, of Burbank and 21-year-old Agavni Manukyan of Glendale were booked for attempted homicide and are being held on $1 million bail. A 16 -year-old juvenile from Burbank was taken to juvenile hall.

Both victims were taken to a local trauma center where they are expected to recover.
