A woman died Sunday after being struck, along with four members of her family, in Highland Park Friday, police announced today.

Police say Guadalupe Chavez succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday. Chavez was struck as she crossed on a crosswalk by across from Yorkdale Elementary in the Highland Park neighborhood at 8 a.m. Friday.

Chavez's 10 year old grand-daughter remains in critical condition at USC Medical Center. Lilliana Chavez, 33; and two children were also injured in the crash.

Police say  Seymour Saunders, 87, of Los Angeles was behind the wheel. Detective Felix Padilla with the Central Traffic Division says the accident is still being investigated.

"At this point he failed to yield to pedestrians in a marked crosswalk," said Padilla. "That would be the violation. We're still looking at the specific cause [of the crash]."

Padilla added that once the investigation is completed, the case will be taken to the district attorney's office for review.
