Wind warnings and advisories have been issued for much of southwestern California through Thursday.
The National Weather Service says northwest to north winds will follow in the wake of an upper-level weather system moving over the area Wednesday.
Gusts up to 60 mph are possible below passes and canyons of the Santa Ynez Mountains in southern Santa Barbara County and in parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
Forecasters say travel there could be difficult for drivers of high-profile vehicles and those towing trailers, and damage such as downed trees and power lines may occur.
Much of the rest of the region will see advisory-level winds except for the Los Angeles basin and the immediate San Diego County coast.
The Central Coast will see high surf and small craft advisories.
