The enrollment portion of Covered California, the state's health exchange website, temporarily went offline Wednesday because of software glitches.

The site was taken down on Wednesday afternoon after intermittent errors cropped up on the enrollment pages, ending user sessions during the application process, according to a statement from a public relations representative.

The statement went on to note that employees and contractors worked overnight on the problem and hoped to restore the website functionality by 1 p.m., though as of 1:17 p.m., a maintenance page was still up.

Consumers were advised they could still visit the Covered California website for information pages and to use the Shop and Compare Tool to find health care coverage in their area.
