A two-car accident involving a Los Angeles police vehicle in Glassell Park left seven people injured — two seriously — on Monday morning.

The accident occurred just before 9 a.m. on the 2900 block of Fletcher Drive. LAPD Commander Andrew Smith told KPCC one of the vehicles was an unmarked LAPD vehicle. The other vehicle was a Dodge Durango.

Seven passengers were transported to area hospitals. Four were veteran police officers — two are in serious condition and two are in good condition, according to latest reports. Three people in the Durango were also hurt; police say they're in good condition.

Smith says the crash happened when the officers drove through a red light in their unmarked police car while responding to a call for backup. He says the lights and sirens were on. The officers were headed east on San Fernando Road and collided with the Durango headed north on Fletcher.

The accident comes less than two weeks after another LAPD officer-involved crash that left veteran cop Nicholas Lee dead and a truck driver seriously wounded.
