Weekend Traffic: DUI saturation patrols, March of Dimes, freeway closures

It's one of those weekends where so much is happening in the Southland, you don't know what to talk about first. 

Let's start in Orange County where the Orange County Sheriff's Department has announced it will deploy "DUI saturation patrols" in Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods and Aliso Viejo on Friday at 7 p.m.

"After falling dramatically for five straight years, figures for 2012 showed an increase in deaths because someone failed to designate a sober driver," according to a press release sent out by the OCSD. 

Then, there's the March of Dimes on Saturday at Exposition Park in Los Angeles. The march starts at 8:30 a.m.

On Sunday, the Kids 4 Kids 5k will begin at 8:30 a.m. That route is expected to affect some roads and bus lines. Check out the area that is expected to be impacted:

West County Connectors
  • I-405, I-605, SR-22: These freeways and surrounding ramps and streets regularly see night closures throughout the week and sometimes into the weekend. Read More

  • Ramp Closure at Sunset Avenue: The eastbound 10 on- and off-ramp at Sunset Avenue, as well as a portion of Sunset Avenue south of the westbound ramps, will be closed for approximately eight months beginning April 25. Read More
  • Ramp Closure at Sunset Avenue: The Sunset Avenue on- and off-ramp to the westbound 10 freeway will be closed through Sunday. Read More
  • Ramp and Lane Closures: The 57 freeway regularly sees a number of ramp and lane closures for the Orange County Transportation Authority's widening project. Read More
  • Connector and Ramp Closures: Caltrans will close one lane of the northbound U.S. 101 to southbound 110 and southbound U.S. 101 to northbound 110 connectors for approximately four months beginning in late January. Read More
  • Lane Closure: Lane closure at New Dock Street to Henry Ford Blvd. on 47 north and south for bridge work until 2014. Read More
  • Ramp Closure at New Dock Street: On-ramp closed at EB/WB New Dock Street on Northbound 47 for bridge demolition until 2014. Read More
  • Freeway Closure: The 215 freeway will experience nightly closures on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays beginning April 2. Read More
  • Lane Closure: The north and southbound 215 will be affected by two lane changes and ramp closures between McCall Boulevard and Scott Road until 2014. Read More
Reduced Lanes
  • Sepulveda Boulevard: Sepulveda Boulevard will be reduced to one northbound lane between Mountaingate Drive and Skirball Center Drive to conduct roadway construction on the northbound No. 2 lane. The closure will remain in effect until April 21. Read More
Road Closure
  • Wilshire/Sepulveda Boulevard: The Wilshire / Sepulveda Boulevard intersection will be closed nightly in Westwood until May 5. Read More
  • Shoemaker Avenue: Shoemaker Avenue will be closed in both directions between Excelsior Drive to South Firestone Boulevard for approximately two weeks: from April 28 to May 12. Read More
  • San Gabriel Avenue: San Gabriel Avenue will be closed in both directions at the railroad crossing between Ninth Street and Foothill Boulevard starting Friday at 9 a.m. until Monday at 5 a.m. Read More
  • Foothill Boulevard: For six weeks starting Monday, eastbound Foothill Boulevard between between Vernon and Orange avenues will be closed daily from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. Read More
  • South Firestone Boulevard: Caltrans will fully close South Firestone Boulevard in both directions from Rosecrans Avenue to just south of Silverbow Avenue through April 2014. Read More
  • Myrtle Avenue: Myrtle Avenue will be closed just north of Duarte Road near the railroad crossing for approximately four months. Read More

  • Downtown Broadway Stop Relocations: Bus lines 002, 004, 030/330, 035, 038, 040, 045, 068, 084, 745 will be affected. Read More
