A 78-year-old San Pedro man has been arrested for investigation of arson in connection with a fire that burned down an Elks Lodge building earlier this month.
The Los Angeles Fire Department reports that Nick Pecarich was arrested Tuesday. He was jailed on $500,000 bail.
Authorities gave no motive for the April 15 fire, which gutted most of the sprawling, 47-year-old building.
It took more than 100 firefighters two hours to knock down the pre-dawn blaze.
Lodge members have vowed to rebuild.
The building, on a hilltop near the Pacific Ocean, contained chandeliers and stained glass windows more than 100 years old.
The arrest followed an investigation by investigators from the L.A. fire and police departments, as well as the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
