Alarmed by reports of teen suicide, city officials in Carson want to crack down on teen bullying.
The Los Angeles Times reported Sunday that city officials this week will consider passing an ordinance to make it a misdemeanor to cause anyone from kindergarten to age 25 to feel terrorized, harassed or threatened with no legitimate purpose.
Under the new law, authorities would still have the discretion to charge alleged bullies with a lesser infraction.
The measure would also cover forms of cyberbullying.
Councilman Mike Gipson says he hopes the measure will help make Carson a "bully-free city."
Carson is a city of 93,000 people south of Los Angeles.
