Residents of rural Los Angeles County are urging a northern California judge to change his mind and send a serial rapist to live elsewhere upon his release from a state mental hospital.
The Santa Clara County judge is conducting a six-hour hearing in San Jose on Wednesday to hear comments and opinions on where Christopher Evans Hubbart should live. The judge earlier determined that Hubbart should live in a sparsely populated desert community in the Antelope Valley because the convicted rapist was born and raised in Los Angeles County.
But residents, their assemblyman and the Los Angeles County district attorney said that Antelope Valley has become a "dumping ground" for sexual predators. They are arguing against Hubbart taking up residence in their community.
