Spring is back! And we're planning your three-day weekend — on a budget. Get ready for free improv, butterflies at the Natural History Museum and two great outdoor movie screenings. This is going to be a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. 

Here's everything you need to know: 


1. SAY ANYTHING SCREENING

Catch a live concert from Silver Lake locals Decorator before a screening of the '80s classic "Say Anything." Watch John Cusack bring back the boombox in Street Food Cinema's celebration of the flick's 25th anniversary. Food trucks will be in abundance: Dogtown Dogs, Grilled Cheese Truck, The Lime Truck, Mercedes Binge, Sweet E's and more. 

When: Doors open 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

2. LA INDIE IMPROV FESTIVAL

One day, four stages, thirteen hours, 150+ improv teams. This year’s festival will take place at the Artworks and Oh My Ribs theaters in Hollywood. Expect nonstop indie improv featuring teams including two musical improv hours and a hip-hop block. There are no tickets and no admission charges, so just show up (eat from the food trucks) and donate what you can.

3. PADDLE FOR WATER 

What Pirate Coast Paddle is all about

Pirate Coast Paddle Company is hosting a beach party – and you're invited! It's teaming up with Charity Water to help provide clean and safe drinking water to developing nations. Stop by for good food and booze, paddleboarding and a bounce house for the kids. We're most excited for the live music and champagne at sunset.

When: Noon to 4 p.m. Saturday

4. YOU'RE THE STAR OF THIS SHOW

It's like Rock Band. But with a real live band. Choose from more than 200 songs and perform up front with musicians from L.A.'s underground music scene. Meet the band here — They look totally '80s and totally cool. Here's the song book. Start practicing.

5. STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL

Fresh strawberries, a massive paradetons of rides and free strawberry shorkcake. It's the 56th annual Garden Grove Strawberry Festival. The official giant strawberry cake cutting ceremony will take place 6 p.m. Friday. Admission is free, but the rides are going to cost youWin a free wristband here. Schedule of events here.

6. FREE SCREENING OF THOR

Marvel comic fan? (Or perhaps you just enjoy looking at Chris Hemsworth.) Pack a picnic and head over to Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles to watch Thor on a 20' screen. The free viewing is a part of the city's Friday Night Spring Flicks. More details here. Future screenings here

7. BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLIES

The Butterfly Pavilion at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is now open. Enjoy the company of more than 30 native North American butterfly species and an array of plants. Wander through a unique changing ecosystem, witness free-flying creatures interacting with plant life and emerge with a better understanding of the environment. 

When: 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
