Rescue divers were searching a small, rocky ocean cove in Rancho Palos Verdes Thursday for a 19-year-old man who disappeared while swimming with friends.

The man went missing about 3 p.m. Wednesday. County fire and U.S. Coast Guard rescuers searched for him at Abalone Cove until sheriff's divers took over in the evening.

Los Angeles County sheriff's spokeswoman Nicole Nishida says the search resumed just after dawn Thursday.

Friends of the missing man say they were jumping into the choppy water when he started yelling for help. They helped him get to a rock but he was swept by a wave.
