Unique L.A.'s summer market is an Etsy playground: Delicious jams, snappy shirts and ninja shorts, kimonos, bow ties, cool jewelry, gourmet dog treats and dinosaur toys. Discover aisles of independent designers and artists at this two-day event. It has a few new additions this year including a classroom featuring speakers such as photographer Bonnie Tsang and a coffee bar by Blue Bottle. Pro tip: The first 5,000 ticket buyers each day get a free tote bag.

The Annenberg Space for Photography is hosting a free outdoor photo and music festival Saturday. Experiment with the latest photography equipment from exhibitors including Canon Fujifilm and Impossible. Photographers Amelia Davis, Ethan Russell and Mark Seliger will share stories behind the images displayed on two 15’ x 15’ LED video walls. Between lectures, listen to live country and blues musicians from the Murphy Family Band, Run Boy Run, James Harman’s Bamboo Porch Revue and Rusty Truck. Pro tip: The beer garden opens at 4 p.m.

Chill, eat and drink in the heart of downtown Los Angeles before watching a live show from indie rock band Gardens & Villa Friday night. The group draws inspiration from its hometown Santa Barbara (see music video below). The Sundance Next Fest kicks off with an outdoor screening of "Napoleon Dynamite" at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Screenings continue through the weekend at the historic Theatre at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles. Our pick: "Kumiko the Treasure Hunter." Spend an evening sampling beer and hanging with elephants, koalas and apes at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Admission includes beer from local craft and microbreweries including Eagle Rock Brewery, Golden Road, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, Trumer Pils, Lagunitas Brewing Co. and Hangar 24 Craft Brewery — just to name a few. Grub will be available for purchase. Pro tip: The Zoo Drive off-ramp from the northbound 5 Freeway will be closed the evening of this event (8 p.m. to 4 a.m.) due to paving work.
