Authorities say a body found high on a mountain in California's Kings Canyon National Park is that of a San Francisco Bay Area teacher who went missing while hiking.

A National Park Service statement says Gregory Muck's body was discovered Wednesday at an elevation of about 12,000 feet on Mount Gardiner.

The body of the 46-year-old Santa Cruz resident has been sent to the Fresno County coroner's office. The cause of death is under investigation.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports Muck, an experienced hiker and backpacker who teaches in Fremont, entered the park Aug. 10 and was supposed to exit on Sunday, a week later. His wife reported him missing after he failed to appear as planned.

More than 70 people searched for Muck over several days.
