Interstate Fire: Brush fire contained after burning 25 acres near Lake Elsinore (updated)

Update Sept. 2, 9:15 a.m. 

The Interstate fire has been fully contained as of 7 p.m. Monday, according to Riverside County Fire Department. 

Ultimately the fire burned 25 acres and resulted in one injury.

Firefighters were battling a brush fire Monday afternoon off the 15 Freeway near Lake Elsinore after a pickup truck hauling a trailer overturned, according to fire officials.

The fire was holding at about 25 acres as of 3:45 p.m., according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

One person in the truck was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with minor injuries. Four other passengers declined treatment, officials reported.

Temescal Canyon Road between Hostettler Road and Lester Road was closed.

Personnel from the Cleveland National Forest were assisting on the ground, and Southern California Edison was helping with downed power lines, officials said.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported that the freeway was temporarily shut down, but both sides had reopened by 3:15 p.m.
