Orange County Register co-owner Aaron Kushner resigned Tuesday from his duties with both Freedom and the paper, according to the Register.

The paper's publisher, ex-casino executive Rich Mirman, is taking on the executive duties of CEO and president, according to the Register. He'd already been running the day-to-day operations since last fall.

Co-owner Eric Spitz also resigned, but is staying on as Freedom's chairman of the board, the Register reports.

Kushner and Spitz have owned Freedom since 2012. They made a series of hires and moves to expand, before contracting and laying off or buying out numerous employees.
