Kindergarten students at an East Los Angeles elementary school are getting admissions certificates to two California colleges.

The Los Angeles Unified school district says under the GO East LA: A Pathway to College and Career Success initiative all East Los Angeles students who graduate from Garfield High School and meet enrollment requirements are guaranteed admission to East Los Angeles College and California State University, Los Angeles.

The certificates handed out Tuesday are intended as an early reminder to parents that it's never too soon to start thinking about college.

GO East LA is a partnership between LA Unified and both colleges in the initiative. The aim is to promote college attendance for students in East Los Angeles, where many students are the first in their families to attain higher education.
