Deputies kill machete-wielding man who killed 1, wounded 1

A man who attacked neighbors with a machete, killing one and wounding another, has been shot to death by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies.

The man died at the scene in South El Monte shortly after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. His name hasn't been released.

Authorities tell the San Gabriel Valley Tribune that he attacked a man and a woman, whom neighbors described as a married couple.

Arriving deputies found all three in the front yard of a home. Authorities say deputies shot the man when he refused to drop the machete and made a move toward them.

One victim died at the scene. The woman was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

There's no word on what prompted the attack.
