Until Wednesday, one of the world's largest cargo ships will be docked at the Port of Long Beach. it's the largest container ship to ever dock in the U.S.
French shipping company CMA CGM named its new boat the Benjamin Franklin. This is the container vessel's second visit to Southern California.
To give you an idea of just how big this cargo ship is, the Benjamin Franklin is:
Longer than downtown Los Angeles's tallest building
Longer than four football fields
Longer than five Boeing 747 airplanes
Bigger than the Empire State Building (without antennas) and the Eiffel Tower
East Coast ports and the Panama Canal can't support cargo ships of this size. It can carry up to 18,000 containers onboard.
Ships like this can carry about one-third more cargo than the average container vessel coming into Southern California's ports.
In December 2015, the ship docked at the Port of L.A. The vessel is slated to move on to Oakland and Seattle.
