Police have identified a driver who was fatally shot by police in Torrance Monday as 39 year-old Michelle Lee Shirley of San Diego.

Three officers fired at Shirley after she drove toward them with her Ford Fusion, Torrance Police Sergeant Paul Kranke told KPCC. It's not yet clear how many shots were fired.

The incident took place around  2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon near Arlington Avenue and Post after police received calls of a reckless driver in the area.

Video from the scene shows officers attempting to box Shirley in with their vehicles, then firing as she drives toward them.

Kranke said Shirley had a prior record, but said he couldn't go into details.

No weapons were found in the vehicle and there were no other passengers, Kranke said.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are still being investigated, he said.
