Construction on the Crenshaw line is moving ahead to finally bring the convenience of connecting to the Los Angeles International Airport by rail to travelers, but before that happens, drivers will need to suffer some inconvenience on one of the country's busiest freeways.

Starting Monday and running for three weeks, Caltrans will shut down some or all of the north and southbound lanes of the I-405 for about two miles in the LAX area.

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will be building an 800-foot-long bridge over the freeway to accommodate the Crenshaw rail line. The line is set to open in 2019 and will connect to LAX terminals with a people mover connector scheduled to operate in 2023.

The work will occur from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday and through 7 a.m. on Saturdays. All lanes will reopen for the morning commute.

If you’ve got a late-night flight to catch or a beloved relative to pick up, you should plan for some delays and detours.
