Marine from SoCal killed in Osprey training crash

One of three Marines killed in a training accident off the coast of Australia over the weekend has been identified as Private First Class Ruben Velasco from the West Covina area. 

The three Marines remain missing and were declared dead by the military on Tuesday. They were among 26 people on board an MV-22 Osprey that crashed off the coast of Queensland state on Saturday.

Yvonne Martinez, who went to school with Velasco's aunt and uncle, said the community has found a place to grieve online.

"Online, through Facebook, we've all been kind of talking, and, you know, trying to give each other condolonces and our prayers," she said to KPCC media partner NBC 4.  

Velasco graduated from West Covina High School in 2016.
