A member of the family who owns and runs the famous Canter's Deli in Los Angeles has died.
Gary Canter, grandson of the deli's founder Ben Canter, passed away from a heart attack Tuesday night, according to statements on the restaurant’s Twitter page and his personal Facebook page.
Canter was 58 years old.
With its famous pastrami sandwiches and other fare, the 24-hour bakery and restaurant has been a city staple for decades.
Canter’s Deli set up short in 1931 in Boyle Heights before moving to Fairfax in 1953.
This culinary landmark will continue to be managed by the third- and fourth-generations of the Canter family.
