Authorities have identified the victim and the killer in Friday's shooting at a Long Beach law firm as the founder and one of the partners.
The Los Angeles County coroner's office says 75-year-old Major Langer was shot by suspected shooter, 58-year-old John Mendoza, who also died. Langer founded the firm — Perona, Langer, Beck, Serbin, Mendoza and Harrison — and Mendoza was a partner. The Long Beach Press-Telegram reports that the firm acquired the Larry H. Parker law firm years ago.
Police say Mendoza walked into the office, located in the Bixby Knolls neighborhood, after a holiday party and shot two colleagues before turning the gun on himself. Authorities have not yet determined a motive.
A friend tells the Long Beach Press-Telegram that the other person wounded was another partner, Ronald Beck. There was no immediate word on his condition Saturday.
Our media partner NBC4 spoke with Alise McKenna, who works near the law firm on East San Antonio Drive.
"It was sad. We didn't know what was going on a first. You're just sitting there and you don't know what's gonna happen and all of a sudden two people are dead," McKenna said.
