When Al Jarecki, sold his MovieFone, business to AOL, he had the time and money to embark on his dream career as a documentary filmmaker. Little did he know that his feature on party clowns in NYC would end up being a true story of child molestation and the havoc wreaked on one apparently "normal" family. What makes "Capturing the Friedmans" particularly moving is the use of home videos to examine the disintegration of a family. Originally aired on Talk of the City June 3, 2003.
Whale Rider

The film Whale Rider is the story of a young girl who dares to challenge the ancient traditions of her people despite opposition from her grandfather, the chief of their village. Her people are the Maori, New Zealand's indigenous people. The film is a re-interpretation of a 1000-year-old legend belonging to the Maori, in which their ancestral leader, Paikea, arrives on their coastal land on the back of a whale. The film chronicles the plight of a young girl to be the next leader of her people and to take on the name of Paikea, an honor traditionally bestowed on the eldest son. Kitty talks to the three main actors in the film, the young girl, Keisha Castle-Hughes, her grandfather, Rawiri Paratene and her father, Cliff Curtis. His son Nathaniel Kahn has written and directed a documentary about his father, a man he barely knew, to come to terms with the shocking facts he learned after his fathers death about the two other families he had kept secret. Nathaniel interviewed the other great architects of the 20th century, I.M Pei, Philip Johnson and Frank Geary to reconcile his father's secret life and the legacy his work represents. Often perceived as "computer-like" and arrogant, Morris instead shows a McNamara who questioned his moral authority in World War II, influenced for the better the tone of the Cuban missile crisis, and a man who strove to adjust to the presidencies of John F.
