China is California's biggest growth market; last year, the state exported nearly $7 billion worth of goods to China – an increase of 25% over the previous year. Besides trade and investment, southern California and China are linked by, among other things, intellectual property issues, immigration, and religion.

Southern California's Chinese-American community has experienced significant growth, transforming the San Gabriel Valley in particular. As Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger led a trade mission to China the week of November 14-18, 2005, KPCC News focused on the special relationship between southern California and China.
