I listen to the show every week and enjoy it, but I violently disagreed with the critics' wrong-headed dismissal of Public Enemies. Just as the critics seem unable to let go of 35mm film in their trashing of the HD look (which I loved because it eschews the sepiatone cliches of most films set in the Depression), I felt the critics were unfair to Depp's performance. No he isn't the great Warren Oates or Larry Tierney. So what? You guys missed Mann's film because you were too busy comparing it to all the other Dillinger pics and not taking the film on it's own terms. Bale was weak, and this is no masterpiece, but it has so much to offer compared to the dreck usually offered to moviegoers. I'll bet the critics see the film a few years from now and realize there's a lot more here than just a misguided star vehicle.
