Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor will be questioned by the Senate Judiciary Committee Monday, in what is expected to be a fiery confirmation hearing. Eleven Democrats will participate, including new Democratic Senators Arlen Specter and Al Franken. Seven Republicans and their numerous witnesses are expected to explore hot-button issues like affirmative action and abortion. If confirmed, Sonia Sotomayor will be the first Latina to serve on the Supreme Court. Larry Mantle talks with legal experts about what's at stake politically and legally.

I just shut off the radio after the legal "scholar" from Chapman Law School said empathy equals having a hard luck story and Obama said Sotomayor should be confirmed because she has a hard luck story. I don't need to listen to KPCC to hear guests trying to make cheap points with little regard to their accuracy.

Frankly, the guests from Chapman Law School have been consistent disappointments. Todays pushed phony talking points shamelessly. The Dean, when he has been on, has pushed them more subtly. Surely there are conservative legal scholars who can be booked who will approach the issues with the seriousness and respect for the facts that KPCC's listeners expect.
