The Stupak amendment
Pro-life activist Jessica Meunier (R) of Fitchburg, MA, and pro-abortion activist Luqman Clark (L) of Arlington, VA hold up signs as they protest outside U.S. Supreme Court during the 'March for Life' event January 24, 2005 in Washington, DC.
The Stupak-Pitts Amendment in the House healthcare bill prohibits any coverage of abortion in the public option. This leaves liberals in a bind. While they want the healthcare bill to find its way to Barack Obama's desk, some--including more than 40 lawmakers--have vowed to oppose it if the language of the Amendment remains unchanged.
