  • Day of action to protest California education cuts

Funding for California’s various levels of public education has taken a serious financial hit over the last two years – $18 billion according to United Teachers of Los Angeles. Today, large coalitions of teachers, students, parents and school administrators are taking part in state-wide rallies and marches to protest even deeper cuts. Actions are planned on college, high school and elementary school campuses and in cities across the state. Larry checks in with the protesters to find out their grievances and state officials to dig into the budget realities. How, specifically, are the cuts impacting students and teachers? And do protests like this work?

  • Health care—the end game is here

For over a year, healthcare insurance reform has been the big story out of Washington. But now things are finally coming to an up-or-down vote. In a speech Wednesday President Barack Obama firmly rejected Republican calls to draft new legislation from scratch. Instead, he said he wanted a vote in the next few weeks—and that he would maneuver to deny a minority filibuster. What are the potential political shock waves? And what is this final incarnation of insurance reform likely to look like?

  • You Say Tomato, I Say Shut Up

Annabelle Gurwitch and Jeff Kahn have been married for thirteen years. In other words, they’ve had ample time to annoy the hell out of each other. In their new book, "You Say Tomato, I Say Shut Up," the actor-writer-comedian pair take a humorous look back at their time served. At points, their relationship seemed doomed by their opposing personalities – Kahn’s the romantic one, while Gurwitch leans pragmatic. But after trials and tribulations the two learned to navigate the conflicts that come with romance, money, and children by embracing each other's differences, taking on parenting as a competition, and dropping out of couples therapy. In alternating "He Says"/"She Says" sections, Gurwitch and Kahn each offer a frank, witty take on surviving the married life.
