If you have ever wanted to see the Sylmar cascades up close now is your chance. The Department of Water and Power will be opening the gates until the end of the day on Saturday. The hours will be 10am to 3pm on Friday, and 9am to 5pm on Saturday. The gates were opened for this week’s 100th anniversary celebration of the aqueduct’s opening. The system of power plants, fumes and pumps brings the water 233 from the Owens Valley to Los Angeles where it flows.
