Downtown Redevelopment Plan
Last week the L.A. City Council ratified a massive, two-point-four billion-dollar development plan for
downtown. The plan will create thousands of new housing units, restore many historic downtown buildings,
devote $150 million toward improving services for the homeless, and may contribute to the development
of an NFL football stadium. Almost immediately the Council encountered a flood of criticisms, most notably
from LA County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky who says the County may sue the city over loss of future
revenue. Larry speaks with him and LA City Councilmember Eric Garcetti about the plan.
The Borough Alternative
LA City Councilmember Wendy Gruel proposed that a borough system could be good alternative to breaking
up the city of Los Angeles through secession movements. If the proposal becomes a ballot measure this fall, it
could compete with secession measures and contribute to their defeat. Larry Mantle talks with City
