Shark Attack (Listen)
Deborah Franzman died after being bitten by a 15-18 foot shark off Avila Beach in Central California last Tuesday. The attack heightened public awareness of sharks, buoyed by sightings of great whites swimming off San Onofre Beach, a popular area for surfing. Patt Morrison dives into the subject with Michael Domeier, PhD., President of the Pfleger Institute of Environmental Research, a non-profit dedicated to researching and promoting important issues in marine biology and fisheries, and Peter Pyle, farallon biologist at Point Reyes Bird Observatory to discuss the sharks living along our coastline--what they eat, their behavior, and what marine biologists are learning about them through satellite tracking.

Triangle Shirtwaist Fire (Listen)
Until September 11th, the Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire of 1911 was the worst workplace disaster in the history of New York City, killing 146 people. Washington Post journalist David Von Drehle joins guest host Patt Morrison to discuss his book Triangle: The Fire That Changed America that chronicles the details of the disaster, the sensational trial that followed, and the labor legacy of the tragedy.

Middle East Peace (Listen)
Patt Morrison talks with Hanan Ashrawi, a compelling and influential voice in the contemporary theatre of Middle Eastern politics and a central player in the struggle for a Palestinian homeland. She has been involved in Palestinian political activism since the mid '70s. In 1993, after the signing of the peace accords by Arafat and Rabin that guaranteed Palestinian self-rule, Dr. Ashrawi headed the Preparatory Committee of the Palestinian Independent Commission for Citizen's Rights in Jerusalem and was the founder and Commissioner General of that committee until 1995. From 1996 through 1998 she served as Minister of Higher Education and Research. In August of '98 she founded the Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy. Dr Ashrawi has also served since 1996 as an elected member of the Palestinian Legislative Council for the Jerusalem District.
